Passenger- Let Her Go (analysis)

Mes
  • Light bulbs and other make shift lights such as fairy lights are used as the lighting in this video.
  • Instruments that are used are the guitar, the drums, the cello, a sound board, the piano and a keyboard.
  • The one man has a beard.
  • There is a stage which makes it a performance based music video.
  • They are singing into a microphone.
  • The voice of the man is quite high but rustic at the same time.
  • Foot stomping
  • Montage of the stage being set up throughout the video which could symbolise how far the band has come.
  • Backstage images.
  • The audience is shown on a regular basis.
Sound
  • A rustic high voice
  • The song builds up to a climax
  • This song has backing singers.
  • The piano is the key orchestrator of this song and especially for the opening of it with the guitar.
  • For the first 26seconds of the song we doing actually have any singing.
  • The drum keeps the song flowing as it keeps the beat throughout the song along with the symbol.
Camera shots
  • There are lots of close ups and mid shots in this music video to show the band together as well as to show the main singer on stage. These shots also show the instruments at work.
  • Long shots are used to show the whole band on stage.
  • Mid shots from behind the main singer to show him and the room.
Editing
  • There are several cases of flashbacks within this music video which shows the audience how far the band has actually come from the start and it portrays their story as well.
  • Once again other than the flashbacks, there are just straight cuts in the song.
Once again this is a performance based video which incorporates flashbacks.
There is no relationship between the lyrics and visuals but the tempo sets the speed of the visuals.
